1) Kept to my plan and ran last evening: 5K in 49:08
2) Mrs. C's is moving forward with a new regimen that should be beneficial.
3) I did not eat everything in sight after learning Mrs. C will begin said regimen as it includes in-patient at the hospital--and learning her insurance benefits run out at the end of Oct instead of Nov like we had planned.
Yeeouch on the insurance bit. You did well. And even with the glitch in insurance, it's good that she's starting a regimen that should be helpful.
ReplyDeleteThat last one felt like a punch in the gut. Ouch. But I'm so proud of you for getting in your run and keeping your eating in check. If feels like the hard thing to do but in the long run, it's the best possible choice for how to deal with all of this. It will bring you more strength and comfort knowing you are healthy and able to care for your family. One day, one challenge, one struggle at a time JC. You got this.
ReplyDeleteVery glad to hear that your wife is starting some new treatment, and in response to your last post, I understand the difficulty that you face in feeling helpless to heal her. You're right in that support and comfort are within your arena. Kudos to you for being such a great support to her.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you get support here for yourself. I think you need it as well. Great job on the running!! I agree that it helps clear the head and makes one feel better, and have often wondered why, when I know of all the benefits, I have still chosen not to go do it. But I hope to put that behind me.
Just out of curiousity, will the new health care bill make things easier for you and your wife, regarding coverage and funding?
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Early indications are that the treatment will be effective. Hopefully she'll be able to finish her series before her insurance runs out. Right now she's met her out of pocket threshold, so she's on 100% coverage. That all ends in November when she and the kids move over to my coverage.
ReplyDelete@How I'm Losing It: I'm not sure that the new health care will help, at least in the immediate situation. The fact that lifetime caps are now gone may help in the long run. However, it has been the HIPPA laws that have helped tremendously. Her pre existing conditions would have been a huge road block, but since she lost coverage due to a HIPPA portability event, she shouldn't be penalized as she moves over to my insurance. Cost wise, we'll be paying about 4X what we were paying in premiums for her and the kids through her former employer, so it's hard to imagine that the health bill helped us there...but I've also read that prices will continue to rise until all the bits and pieces are put into place somewhere around 2014.
